My work is strongly influenced by prehistoric cave art. The essence of cave art is distant, yet familiar. I feel that it represents the wild, the past, and the present in a way that strips away all that is unnecessary and evokes the meaning of being human within the realm of nature. Cultures emerge, are destroyed, and then replaced by new ones. We, as a species, are straying further from our roots, and I fear that our natural beginnings will be forgotten. My awareness and concern inspires me to focus on this constant change in nature and express my perception of the world through my layering and collage process.
