My work is strongly influenced by prehistoric art. The essence of indigenous art is distant yet familiar, representing the wild, the past, and the present, stripping away all that is unnecessary and evoking the meaning of being human within the realm of nature. Cultures emerge, are destroyed, and then replaced by new ones. We as a species are straying further from our roots, and I fear that our primitive beginnings will be forgotten. This awareness inspires me to focus on Mother Earth and represent her through my mixed media and collage process. I have sought to stylistically apply the line quality and texture of prehistoric art to emphasize and acknowledge the past.
